JAMES CITY – Mikey Anerton may be the toughest out in
Williamsburg Post 39’s baseball team’s lineup right now.
After going hitless in the Wildflowers first two games,
the West Point High product has gone 8 for 10 in the last two games.
Anerton went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and drove in
two Monday night during Post 39’s 11-1 romp of Middlesex Post 241 at Warhill
High School.
Tyler Klinedinst had two hits, scored two runs and drove
in another as Williamsburg extended its winning streak to three in a row. Jake
Countiss added two hits and drove in a team-high three runs.
Post 39 (3-0) built a 5-0 lead through five innings
before Middlesex Post 241 answered with an unearned run in the top of the
sixth. Sean Hughes allowed one hit and struck out nine in just over five innings.
Williamsburg broke the game open with five runs in the
bottom of the seventh and added another run in the eighth to invoke the mercy
rule.
Solomon McCray, Griffin Colorado and Matt Smith drove in
runs. Michael Brumfield, Liam Lowery, Blake Otey and Thomas Richardson scored.
Kent Klyman struck out three batters in two shutout
innings of relief. Blake Wills retired two of the three batters he faced on
strikes.
Taylor Woolard allowed three earned runs on four hits
with seven walks and three strikeouts for Middlesex.
Williamsburg Post 39 will host Hampton Pot 31 Tuesday at
Warhill High School. Game time is 7 p.m.
