JAMES CITY -- Lafayette High's Andre Lipcius was the only baseball player from greater Williamsburg to earn Group 3A East first-team baseball honors.

Lipcius was named the region's top utility player after a breakout season for the Rams. The sophomore batted .339 with 21 hits and scored a team-high 23 runs. He struck out only two times in 70 plate appearances as Lafayette reached the Colonial Rivers Conference 25 semifinals

Daniel Blankinship and Mark Rivera garnered second-team honors.

Blankinship went 5-1 with a 1.27 earned-run average to lead Lafayette High’s baseball team to a share of the Bay Rivers District title. He allowed only eight earned runs on 36 hits in 44 innings and added three saves.

Rivera had a breakout year in his first season of full-time duty. The senior first baseman hit .328 with 15 runs and 19 hits. He also led the team with 10 stolen bases.
