Miguel Kissoon to play college basketball at Mary Washington

WILLIAMSBURG – Miguel Kissoon will play college basketball at the University of Mary Washington.

The former Walsingham Academy guard announced his decision Thursday afternoon. He hopes to major in sports medicine or business.

“I went on a visit and I loved the area and the campus,” Kissoon said. “They have a new coach this year, I felt he’s a great person and will do a great job.”

The 5-foot-11 point guard average more than 10 points and five points a game this season for a Trojans squad that reached the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state semifinals. He earned second –team, Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools honors as a senior.

The University of Mary Washington returns eight players from a team that went 25-6 and reached the NCAA Division III sectional semifinals.

“I feel I can bring some leadership coming from Walsingham,” he said. “I’m just trying to be an important role player as a freshman and the coaches feel the same way.”
