The Wildflowers notched their third win in a week over
their District 3 rivals Monday night with an 11-1 victory in seven innings at
Warhill High School.
Mike Anerton continued to swing a hot bat for Post 39,
going 4-for-4 with three runs scored. He improved his batting average to .474
on the season and leads the team with 9 runs batted in.
“I felt like I had a good game tonight seeing the ball
really well,” Anerton said. “I struggled at the plate last game, so I tried
simplifying things more this game and not thinking too much. I thought more
about going the other way with the ball.”
Williamsburg continued to get strong production from the
bottom of the lineup. Austin Carter went 1-for-2 and scored three runs in the
No. 8 hole. Thomas Richardson went 1-for-2 with 2 runs batting seventh and
Collan Cryts finished with two hits and a run scored as the team’s last batter.
Post 39 finished with 11 runs on 12 hits in the win.
Solomon McCray went 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored. Michael Brumfield and Blake
Otey each had a hit and scored a run.
The Wildflowers also received another stellar effort on
the hill. Kent Klyman struck out a legion-best 11 batters in five innings of
relief to earn the win. Sean Hughes started and struck out one in his only
inning of work. Otey allowed one hit and struck out one in the seventh.
Klyman, who struck out 6 of the first 8 batters he faced,
said it was his night. “I just tried to stay down in the zone and get ground
balls,” he said. “My fastball was moving a lot tonight, so I think mixing that
in along with my slider and my curveball that really kept them off balance.”
Williamsburg Post 39 will look to continue its winning
streak to eight in a row Tuesday night when they travel to Deltaville to take
on Middlesex Post 241. Game time is 7 p.m.
