JAMES
CITY – Austin Carter has committed to play baseball at Patrick Henry Community
College, a Division 2 college in Martinsville.
The
former Jamestown High product announced his decision earlier this week after leading
Williamsburg Post 39 to its fourth straight District 3 tournament title.
“I
had some other opportunities to play ball at other schools, but it just didn’t
work out,” Carter said. “So I’m very excited for Patrick Henry. My goal is to
play hard and work my very best in academics and hopefully transfer elsewhere
to play baseball.”
The
Patriots won 37 games last spring and were ranked as high as sixth in the
National Junior College Athletic Association rankings. They finished fourth in
the Region X tournament.
Carter
played four years at Jamestown and was a fixture as a middle infielder and
pitcher. As a senior, he had 15 hits, with 15 runs and 11 RBI for an Eagles
team that reached the Group 4A South regional tournament.
His
strong work has continued this summer for Post 39. He appeared in 13 games,
batting .311 with 14 runs scored and drove in eight. Carter was especially
effective during the District 3 tournament, going 6-for-13 with 5 RBI and 6
runs for the Wildflowers as a leadoff hitter.
Defensively,
he had 23 assists at second base and didn’t commit an error in 37 chances.
