ARLINGTON – “Chicks dig the long ball” was a popular advertising campaign by Major League Baseball in 2008.

The Williamsburg Revolution 11U baseball team resurrected the expression Saturday afternoon during a 12-2 victory over Herndon in a Babe Ruth of Virginia state tournament elimination game held Barcroft Park in Arlington

Hunter Ammons, Travoz Harrold and Bobby Dudeck each belted three-run home runs as Williamsburg erased a 2-1 deficit to keep their tournament title hopes alive.

Dudeck and Harrold delivered the long ball during a 6-run fourth inning. Ammons capped the victory with a walk-off three-run blast in the fifth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

Ammons had four hits and scored three runs in the win. Harrold went 2-for-3 with 3RBI and a run scored. Dudeck was 1-for-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. Lincoln Lubsen went 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Brenton Rowe scattered one earned run on two hits and struck out three to earn the win. Lubsen surrendered a run on two hits and struck out two in his only inning of work.

Williamsburg will face either Stafford or Arlington at 5 p.m. in another elimination game.
