JAMES
CITY – Katie Mausteller was the first basketball player in Williamsburg Christian
Academy history to score 1,000 career points.
Next
month, the Solders for Faith Ministries and her school will sponsor a basketball
event in her honor as WCA hosts the third annual Katie’s Challenge 3-on-3 tournament
on Saturday, Aug. 23.
The
event is open to men (ages 16 and older) and women (15 & up). There will be
a minimum of four teams for each division. Teams are limited to five players
per squad and there will be a maximum of 20 teams per division.
Cost
is $15 per player and proceeds will benefit the Soldiers for Faith Ministry,
which was formed by former WCA boys basketball assistant coach Kelly McAndrew.
Game
schedules will be posted at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 23. Teams will be introduced at 9
a.m. and will be followed by a short ceremony honoring Mausteller. Terry Hill,
a former professional basketball coach and author will be the guest speaker and
will lead a pre-tournament chapel service.
The
tournament will be held from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and will be followed by an
awards ceremony and barbecue from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
