WILLIAMSBURG – Williamsburg Starz 16U softball team suffered its first loss of the National Softball Association Class B World Series Tuesday with an 8-4 loss to Team Mizuno from New Jersey.

The Starz led 2-0 looked sharp early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Williamsburg loaded the bases with one out and catcher Natalee Murphy cashed in with a single to core Kaleigh Arnett and Meaghan Boyd.

Team Mizuno answered with six runs in the top of the third to seize momentum. Taylor Olson tied the game with an RBI-single. Two batters later, Brooke Turkalj delivered a three-run triple for a 6-2 lead. They also took advantage of three Williamsburg errors.

on two more runs in the fourth inning. Sarah Bailey scored on a wild pitch and Maddie Cicerella drove in another one with a sacrifice fly.

After two straight 1-2-3 innings, Williamsburg’s bats finally came alive in the fifth. Kelsey Rogersen’s single scored Michaela Parker. Arnett’s base hit allowed Jennifer Burton to score to trim the lead to 8-4.

That would be as close as they would get, as Olson retired the side in order in the sixth with three straight pop-ups to end the game. Olson scattered just four runs on six hits to earn the win. Delaney Morris allowed three earned runs in more than two innings of work.

Olson and Bailey each had two hits and scored two runs for Team Mizuno.
