WEST
POINT – Mikey Anerton, a two-sport standout at West Point High School, has
committed to play baseball at Averett University.
Anerton
announced the decision this week and couldn’t be happier about the decision.
“Averett
just felt right,” he said. “After going for a visit and talking with the
coaches and academic advisors, I knew it was the place for me. They made me see
how I could grow into a man and also continue playing the great game of
baseball. It’s an honor to continue to play.”
As
a senior, he batted .578 for the Pointers. Anerton has 26 hits last spring,
including 12 for extra bases. He scored 14 runs and drove in 11 more for a
squad that mustered just five wins.
His
fine work with the bat continued this summer for Williamsburg Post 39. He
batted .482 with 27 hits in 15 games for the Wildflowers. He drove in a
team-high 23 runs and ranked third in runs scored (16).
Defensively,
he was a rock up the middle for Post 39. He had a team-high 27 assists and
committed just two errors for a Williamsburg club that earned won the regular season
and district tournament titles.
Anerton
isn’t the first player with Williamsburg ties to play for the Cougars. Kevin
Alvarez, who played at Warhill High and with Post 39, will be a senior next
season.
