Williamsburg Revolution 10U team win state title

WARRENTON – Williamsburg Revolution 10U team captured the Babe Ruth of Virginia state championship Sunday afternoon with a 12-6 victory over Glen Allen in the finals held at Stuarts Field near Warrenton.

Kevin Cole had three hits with an RBI and a run scored as the Revolution defeated the reigning state champion for the second time in the tournament.

Williamsburg scored four runs in the third inning and seven more in the fourth to erase a 3-1 deficit. Offensive depth was the key, as every player in the lineup posted at least one hit.

Luke Hanson went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored Price Whitaker also had two hits and scored a run. Bobby Wilson had two hits and scored two runs. Logan Koselke, Jackson Underwood and Reid Lampert combined for three hits, four runs and an RBI.

Paul Williams notched his second win of the tournament, striking out two in a complete-game effort. He also helped his own cause offensively with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Hanson was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. He struck out nine batters in a 10-0 victory over Peachtree in the tournament opener.

The Revolution will represent Williamsburg at next month’s Cal Ripken Baseball 10-year-old World Series in Winchester. They will face the Southeastern champion at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 9.
