Williamsburg Revolution 9U team roll in state tournament opener

Ashton Ware had three hits and drove in four runs for the Williamsburg Revolution on Friday.

JAMES CITY – The Williamsburg Revolution 9U baseball team kicked off the Babe Ruth of Baseball state tournament Friday with a bang, posting a 24-2 victory over Herndon in four innings during the tournament opener held at Warhill District Park.

Ashton Ware had three hits and drove in a game-high four runs as the Revolution rolled to the win. Griffin Wahl was responsible for the most exciting play of the game with a 3-run inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Herndon opened the scoring in the first as John Cruz and Ben Varner led off with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Cruz scored on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Williamsburg answered with nine runs in the first and 14 more in the third inning to put the game out of reach.

Griffin Wahl and Andy Horner tallied two hits apiece for the Revolution. Kameron Eggleston and Braden Dudek drove in two runs apiece. Catcher Vincent Smith threw out a runner trying to steal second base.

Wahl and Ryan Terrell combined to scatter two runs on four hits. Wahl struck out two batters in three innings of work. Terrell fanned two more in his lone inning of work.

The Revolution will play Arlington at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
