MANCHESTER,
NH – Mark Montgomery picked up his first minor league victory in nearly two
months Monday night for the Trenton Thunder during an 8-5 victory over the New
Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Montgomery
scattered one hit and two walks and struck out a pair in two scoreless innings
of work for the Thunder.
The
former Bruton High and Williamsburg Post 39 standout has made four appearances
for the New York Yankees Class-2A affiliate since joining the team following
nearly a lengthy rehab assignment in Tampa.
Montgomery
started the season in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders before suffering an undisclosed
injury in June. He was 1-1 with a 3.03 earned-run average for the Railriders.
He struck out 34 batters and had two saves in 29 2/3 innings.
The
former Longwood University standout missed most of the second half of last
season with the Railriders after suffering an elbow injury. After watching his
velocity dip some in June, he was sent do Tampa to try and regain the strength
in his arm.
He
returned to the Thunder on June 11 against Akron, striking out a batter in a
perfect inning of relief. He’s made four appearances for Trenton and has
allowed an unearned run on four hits and struck out six in six innings of work.
