Kelly Salamy leads her division after Day 1 of the VSGA Junior Girls championships.

CROZET – Three female golfers from greater Williamsburg are in the hunt for a title at the 45th annual Virginia State Golf Association Junior Girls Championships held at the Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet.

Williamsburg’s Kelly Salamy carded an 80 to lead Midlothian’s Rory Weinfurther (81) in the Girls 11-12 division. Salamy shot a 36 on the Back 9 to erase a five-stroke deficit to Weinfurther.  Jinny Parker of Fairfax is third with an 87, followed by Emporia’s Cassie Robinson (90) Roanoke’s Jayde Dudley (91) and Chesapeake’s Phoenix Smith (92).

Tawni Hatcher finished in second place in the girls 14-15 division after the first day of competition. The Lafayette High product shot a 37 on the front nine and finished with a 79, just behind South Riding’s Ashley Nguyen (76). Clifton’s Cristine Wang (84) is third, followed by Roanoke’s Amy Yang (90), Fairfield’s Grace Huffman (90) and Fairfax’s Caroline DeLoach (91).

Emily Salamy is in eighth-place in the girls 16-18 division. The Jamestown High product shot a 36 on the back 9 to finish with a 2-over-par 75.

Salem’s Kristin Hearp shot a 5-under-par 68 to take a two stroke lead over Midlothian’s Alex Wright after Day 1. Norfolk’s Elizabeth Bose (73) was tied for third, along with Alexandria’s Erin Drolet and Blacksburg’s Katie Turk (73). Roanoke’s Meagan Board (74) was seventh.
